Session border controller

As IPT networks are interconnected over the Internet, a device or devices are necessary to allow calls to be placed between domains. These devices are analogous to border routers between routing domains. The devices are called session border controllers and control the placement of calls between IPT networks. A session border controller at a peering point between two networks is called a core session border controller. The core session border controller performs several duties.

  • Hides the real addresses of your customers from peer networks
  • Hides the details of your internal network from peer networks
  • Polices the connection to other service providers
  • Can remark CoS/QoS settings between service providers
  • Provides detailed call information
