The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is an international standards organization with representation from many countries; ANSI is the U.S. representative. While the ISO develops standards in its own right, it also adopts and approves regional and national standards for international use. For example, a significant number of the standards developed by IEEE have been adopted and approved by ANSI for national use, and the ISO for international use.
