Where business continuity planning (BCP) is focused on recovering and restoring business activities and processes, disaster recovery planning (DRP) is focused on recovering information assets (e.g., systems, data, networks). As such, DRP is a subset of BCP. Where BCP deals with the entire company, DRP is more IT focused. Specifically, it is focused on information and processing resources (e.g., servers, networks, clients, storage, applications, etc.). Furthermore, DRP deals with catastrophic disruption that requires relocation of some or all information assets to an alternate facility. Finally, DRP tends to be focused more on short term restoration rather than the long term restoration.
